Biography
I am an emerging professional in the field of Urban Planning, specializing in blending the built and natural environments to maximize enrichment and overall quality of life for urban citizens while upholding sustainability and equity principles. I developed this website from the ground up as a portfolio of my work and a space to share insights on how urban planning shapes our lives and futures.
My perspective on urban planning has been shaped by traveling to 22 countries across the globe, where I’ve experienced firsthand how cities around the world approach mobility, green space, density, and public life. Walking through the pedestrian-first streets of Copenhagen, the transit networks of Tokyo, and the historic cores of European cities, I’ve seen how intentional planning decisions create vibrant, livable environments. I’ve also seen the pitfalls, such as cities designed around cars rather than people, lacking public space or disconnected from their natural surroundings. These experiences drive my commitment to designing urban spaces that are sustainable, inclusive, and built for the people who live in them.
My Values
I believe in designing cities and neighborhoods that prioritize people, the environment, and long-term sustainability. My approach integrates technical expertise with community-driven solutions, ensuring that urban spaces remain accessible, inclusive, and adaptable to future challenges. Thoughtful urban design isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about fostering places where people want to live, connect, and thrive.
Urban Planning Experience
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning (Summa Cum Laude) from Arizona State University, with experience in zoning regulations, land use planning, GIS, 3D modeling, and project coordination. My work focuses on integrating the built and natural environments to create more livable, sustainable communities. I have engaged in policy analysis, technical mapping, and public outreach to develop solutions that balance urban growth with environmental responsibility and social equity. I am currently working as an Assistant Planner in Central Washington, where I am involved in the City's Comprehensive Plan Update for 2046.
Transferable Skills & Background
Beyond urban planning, my leadership experience in retail management has strengthened my ability to mentor teams, navigate complex challenges, and foster collaboration. Managing diverse teams and resolving customer concerns has refined my ability to communicate effectively and facilitate consensus, skills that translate directly into planning and stakeholder engagement.
Additionally, my background in bartending has honed my ability to engage with a wide range of people, multitask efficiently, and adapt to fast-paced environments. These experiences enhance my approach to planning by improving my capacity to work with diverse communities, manage expectations, and make informed decisions quickly.
Coding & Web Development
I started coding in February 2014 when I built my first personal blog, and since then, I’ve expanded my technical skills into web development, data visualization, and interactive mapping. My work in urban planning has led me to develop GIS-integrated projects, digital portfolios, and interactive tools that make complex planning concepts more accessible.
I primarily work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using coding as a tool to enhance urban analysis and storytelling. Whether creating dynamic web-based maps, structuring interactive planning resources, or refining my portfolio, I see web development as a natural extension of my mission: to make urban planning more engaging and impactful.
